Dallas cigarettes are maybe one of the youngest tobacco brands. "Dallas" trademark was registered only in 1998 and that was actually the first year of production of these cigarettes. The whole story of the brand registration and introduction is a very interesting one as it appeared to be more complicated than it could look at the very first glance. Before 1998 there was "DALLUS" brand registered in Russia by The London Tobacco Company Limited. This enterprise also tried to register the "DALLAS" trademark in Russia, but the inquiry was refused as the city of Dallas is situated in the USA, so it could somehow confuse the consumer in what considered the manufacturing country. In 1998 Dallas Tobacco Leaf Co. Ltd. Inc. which is situated in Texas, USA, registered a label of blue color, in the left side of which a picture of the air ball was situated. It was combined with the DALLAS brand name. This company started producing Dallas cigarettes in the USA and granted a license to one of Russian tobacco factories. Later this very company also registered a whole series of "Dallas" trademarks with various modifications of graphic elements. Later Dallas Tobacco Leaf Company was purchased by Lane Limited which in its turn was bought by British American Tobacco. To protect Dallas cigarettes from the brand squatters, BAT went through the worldwide registration of all similar to "DALLAS" trademarks like "DALLUS" and "DALLES". Dallas cigarettes these days are mainly produced in Russia by Rothmans Tobacco Company on a factory under the name "Rothmans-Neva" in Saint Petersburg.
